Defining Abstract Art
“Abstract Art” entails a broad meaning as it consists of a broad variety of art. It opposes the meaning of realism.
A very common definition of abstract art is “not realistic”. But a lot of artists who consider their art work as abstract, in fact do have their subject in mind while they paint it. They draw certain figures and style it in some way. They are trying to use nature as a starting off point and not merely imitating it. They focus more on the line, color, and form than the elements of the real subject matter. They tend to give the subject a feeling or a sense instead of an exact replication.
Art that doesn’t have any intentional beginnings in any subject matter is called “non-objective,” or non-representational. A term related to this would be “minimalism” or the tendency to keep away from the surface of the canvas as much as possible. An example of this is a white square that is painted on a white background.
“Modern Art,” is a different term used to refer to abstract art. This term is originally used to distinguish the experimenters of the twentieth century from the European sculptors and painters. This term has been used long time ago. There have been a lot of movements that came and gone since then.
Another term that covers a all sorts of art is the “Contemporary Art,” also known as the work of any living artist. But this term has also been used to mean the art that hang in a contemporary home. Contemporary is more like the term modern, which opposes the meaning of traditional. However it can also be used to mean “abstract art”.
There are vast amount of art results you can find on Google and Yahoo when you search for the term “abstract art”. Others use it to define their own painting where people also define it that way when they love the artwork.
